Alumnus Matthew Blocker (Class of 2025) is attending Baylor University in Texas studying business. He recently spent time in ministry to prisoners at a maximum-security facility and said this about his experience: "I have never been happier to meet people, get to know them, and pray for them. There was a genuine smile on my face for all three hours I was there. This experience showed me that anyone and everyone can be called into the Kingdom of God, no matter what they have done; no one is too far from God."
"I had the opportunity to visit a maximum-security prison in Texas, through my church life group, to minister to the inmates there. We went to a special section of the prison called the Z-Pod, which was like the Christian section. Inmates had to apply to get into this section of the prison and could only be there for a year. After getting to know a few of the inmates, they wasted no time in getting ready for worship and Bible study. The worship was unlike anything I have ever heard. It was raw and simple, yet it was by far the best worship I have ever been a part of. The inmates wanted Jesus more than anyone or anything. After the worship, one of the inmates gave a Bible study, and you would have thought that a preaching pastor put it on. When the worship and Bible study were over, we played some fun icebreakers with them, then moved on to an intense basketball tournament. All in all, we were there for roughly three hours with nothing but ourselves showing the love of God. The goal of this ministry is to feed into the inmates, but I think it had a greater impact on me."
